Sony vaio laptop PCG-FX140 fails POST
When the power button is pushed it flashes the disk and keyboard lights, pops the speakers and does nothing else. Holding the power button down causes this to repeat as long as it is held down.
BUT WAIT. Every once in a while, it boots. When it does boot, everything seems to be normal and functional. I have done this (i.e. flashes the lights and occasionally boots) with a battery only, and with battery and line power. If the disc is disconnected the disc light does not flash, but otherwise things are the same (no boot of course). So I wonder is anyone knows what the BIOS tests after flashing the keyboard lights (num lock, caps lock) and what of these would cause it to stop the boot? Is it possible that a weak clock back up cell (the 3Volt Li cell on the Mother board) could cause this? |
