Laptop Disk Error
I have an Acer Tablet. When booting you receive the dreaded "Disk Error" that's all folks. Using a usb adapter I can connect the hard drive to my pc and browse the files on the bad drive. I've tried defraging, scanning for errors, but about 1-2% in it either hangs or has errors. I'm thinking the surface area on the disk is bad, but no matter. I can see most files and both partitions, the second partition I'm assuming is a recovery partition. I've purchased a new hard drive, but am at a stopping point as how I'm going to reload the recovery on the new hard drive and restore the tablet. Also, I have no recovery cd's to speak of. Girl friend's tablet, I think she dropped. Any help would be most appreciated.

Re: Laptop Disk Error
By any chance you got the brand of HDD that you have? Check the HDD Diags link on my sig and download the appropriate diagnostic tool.

Re: Laptop Disk Error
Well, I really do think the hard drive is hosed..... A small dent can be seen on the hard drive panel on the bottom of the laptop. I was just read the instructions at the begin of this forum about using acer's erecovery. well the drive is so messed up it won't even let me run that. Should I just create similar partitions on the new hard drive and place the erecovery stuff on the secondary partition and try that again. The main reason for all this is I don't have a Microsoft XP Tablet edition cd to load on this tablet.
