Driver suddenly stops working and can't reinstall

First post here. So I'm playing WoW on my computer and suddenly the sound starts cutting out a little bit and everything gets choppy so I decide I'll reboot and that'll fix it. Well, I reboot and it takes literally 10 minutes for my machine to boot back up. I couldn't figure out what it was so I try again, 3 times to reboot and every time it's running slow.

So I boot up in safe mode this time and it boots up perfectly normal. I check a few things and find out that Windows has installed some updates around the time I had problems but they were only definitions for Window's Defender and shouldn't have conflicted with anything. So everything runs like crap unless it's in safe mode so I uninstall the drivers and attempt to reinstall them.

I can't download straight from Nvidia, I get the error that my hardware isn't compatible. The download has to come from HP. So I tried an HP download and I get back to the same choppy slow start up and barely running computer. I uninstall again and this time install using device manager. Same deal. Slow and crappy. I try using Window's Updater to install and it fails with error WindowsUpdate_800705B4 but I believe this is the same updater as Device Manager uses anyways.

This machine is somewhat old I guess I've had it for almost 2 years now.

Processor AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor TK-53, 1700 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)

OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium
Version 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001
SMBIOS Version 2.4
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 1.00 GB

I've never had problems until today and it's really driving me crazy. I can run my computer normally without the driver and surf the web, etc but if I try to play any PC games it won't work. I get an error: Failed to find a suitable display device.

Please help me, I have no idea what is going. I just don't understand why it stopped working in the first place and why I can't just reinstall it and it resume to normal.

If any additional info is needed I'll gladly provide it.

Thanks alot!
