Display Problem

Hi ! Everyone,
display of my laptop (Toshiba Satellite M40, display Driver-NVIDIA) is too dim to see the icons on the desktop. with the same setting when i connect it with a external CRT monitor through VGA connector, it is working fine.
can anybody please help me to find out the problem.

have you tried increasing the screen brightness with the fn keys
your backlight may be going
