Toshiba A300 -- Trouble with Recovery

Hey guys

I have a toshiba A300 PSAG0C-04Q01C that needs to be restored. Problem is, I can't. I tried using the recovery CDs that were given me, but that didn't work. So what I did was erase the entire HDD and then used the recovery CDs. I got further this time then I did the first however, when I put the second CD in it froze. So I again re-did the restore and when I got to the second CD it was working! Well, that was short lived because as it was loading Windows files, this message came up.

Recovery Error 10-FC12-0241 Please press OK and restart your machine.

That is all the message says. I have ran an HDD test (it passed but I can't do any more testing as it tells me it is tied into the BIOS, but I can't find any utility in the BIOS, nor can I online. However, it has passed one of the tests so I don't think the HDD is bad. I am currently running a memory test (couldn't do it through the BIOS for some reason unknown to me)

Does anyone have any ideas? I have tried goggling that error number and I come across people in the same boat but with no answer to fix it.

Re: Toshiba A300 -- Trouble with Recovery

I would definitely start with the HDD diagnostic. Use the diagnostic of your HDD brand (see HDD Diags link on my sig). Test your RAM too.. use Memtest86+.

Re: Toshiba A300 -- Trouble with Recovery

I can only do a Read test on the HDD. I checked your link, however this is a toshiba harddrive as well, so no luck there. I did the memory test and it passed. I am clueless now about what is wrong.

EDIT:

I did another memory test and it failed the test. So I will say that the answer to this not working is the memory.

If you have a Toshiba HDD, try the Hitachi Drive Fitness test utility.
