Trouble Recovering OS

Own a ThinkPad T42, which my brother (a missionary in Peru) gave me when he upgraded. My wife downloaded the Facebook virus a couple days ago, and I ran some malware that fixed. Trouble is, internet would no longer work, so I decided to reformat and start from scratch. I ran the recovery from the disks he gave me, and went all the way through the process as instructed. Now, every time I reboot, it puts me back in the recovery mode, which I cannot get out of--and I don't have the disk still in the CD-Rom! How do I get out of this loop and get to use my computer again? Or, is there something else I should be doing to recover?

I appreciate any help you can give,
Mark

Re: Trouble Recovering OS

the recovery disks usually work in conjunction with a recovery partition
did you format the whole drive and wipe this partition off the drive

Re: Trouble Recovering OS

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!!!

How would I do that? I just put in the first disk, clicked on 'Recover Original Software' or something like that, and followed the directions from there, which basically meant putting in eight disks. So, I have no idea what I did.

Re: Trouble Recovering OS

I'm sorry--not sure what 'prise open the draw' means? I can open the cd with no problem. I just cannot get out of the 'recovery' mode. I get put back into it every time I reboot, whether I have the recovery disk in or not.
