Vista wont recognise DVDs

Plz help, i have recently purchased a laptop from dell and it has stopped reading dvd roms specifically games. i have reinstalled drivers ect, device manager says that the hardware is working properly and i have tried deleting registers (i think that's what u call them, upper and lower). I've reinstalled vista and still no joy. It just keeps telling me to insert a disk and ejects the current one. Any ideas?

Re: Vista wont recognise DVDs

Is the disk you are trying to read a copy or original? You said you had reinstalled Vista so I assume the drive read the Vista disk okay, yes?

Re: Vista wont recognise DVDs

The disk is an original (football manager 2009), it wont recognise several disks though. Yea it read the vista disk and it still reads some other disks but for some reason wont recognise a lot of games. Its definately not the disk because it works in my mates laptop. Any help would be appreciated. btw I had installed daemon tools before and ive heard this can mess things up.

Re: Vista wont recognise DVDs

It's sounding more likely that the DVD drive is on it's way out. Is the machine still under warranty? If so then contact Dell and get it fixed.
