Toshiba A215-S4757 Recovery Disks

I am trying to help a friend who owns a Toshiba laptop. He had some Vista errors and tried to run the recovery disks that came with the laptop. When you run the recovery disks (2) you end up with an error message: ERROR : 10-FC10-0017. When you reboot the laptop you get the message BOOTMGR is missing. The warranty ran out October 22, 2008. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in Advance!

Gino

Re: Toshiba A215-S4757 Recovery Disks

Yes, I have tried the startup repair several times! I get the "Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically" message. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: Toshiba A215-S4757 Recovery Disks

Try to boot using Vista installation CD or may be the recovery CD the choose repair. If you have tried this already and you are open for a total system restore try the steps here (steps below may delete all your files in the hard drive; so please proceed with caution):

-- pop in Vista install CD and boot from it
-- select INSTALL
-- if it brings you back to main MENU, select REPAIR
-- run Startup Repair

I believe you followed the steps I posted earlier? If so, I assume you have completed STEP 3 (where you choose REPAIR). If I may ask, what options did you see next after you chose REPAIR?

Re: Toshiba A215-S4757 Recovery Disks

The jpeg attachment is the sreen I get after selecting the repair! My friend only has the Toshiba recovery disks (2). He does not have a stand alone Vista program. I downloaded an ISO which contains the repair features of Vista but not the full program. As you cane see in the pic no operating sysytem is listed!

Thanks!

Gino

Re: Toshiba A215-S4757 Recovery Disks

You need to have a complete recovery CD set that came with the laptop or a Vista install CD. I cannot say if anything other than that would work. You can try with Toshiba customer service if they can provide you a set or recovery/restore CDs for your model.

If recovery partition is still in tact, try the steps here:
