OS: XP service pack 2

The laptop turns on OK as normal, and runs for about 5 minutes, before the screen dies. You can just see the outline of what is on the screen if you hold it up to the light. Plugged the lap top into my workstation screen, and it works fine, but the laptop screen remains blank.
I thought it may be a driver, but the drivers seem OK. I did a system clean up, and drive defrag, which seemed to help about a wek ago, and it worked for a week, but the same prolem has reocuured. Seems a shame to give up on it, as everything else is OK Any ideas? It is an Acer travelmate 2420 machine working on XP pack 2. Peter |

Re: Laptop screen goes blank after 5 minutes
Have you tried with an external monitor? It looks like you have dying backlight or inverter but try with an external monitor just to rule out some other things.
