Acer Extensa 4420-5963 Not Powering Up
I have a 2-month-old Acer laptop that was running fine. About 2 weeks ago I tried to turn it on. Nothing happened. I went to Acer's website, followed their instructions and got it to come on. 2 days later, same problem. It was a weekday, so I called Acer. Rep went thru same procedure I had already done. Computer came on and booted properly. She led me thru a restore to a date before the problem started. I then the computer off. Tried to turn it on later. Dead. Called Acer again. Same advice. I've since put it into the hibernate mode with the a/c adaptor plugged in when I'm not using it. If I do this, it works well; I leave the a/c adaptor plugged in. (The battery is charging, although its charge lasts less than 90 minutes.) The charger gets very hot. But their is a warning about that. The computer is under warranty. But I don't want to give it up for service/repair now because I'm in the middle of an online college course. I plan to take it into Best Buy, where I bought it (and who is authorized to repair it) in mid December, when my class is over. Any ideas what's going on?

Thank you for your suggestion... Despite my efforts, the computer simply died. I took it to Best Buy for a diagnostic check. They saw a problem in the hard drive, which they replaced under warranty, at no charge to me. I took it home. I tried to turn it on. It did not come on. I took it back in to the store. They verified that it was not working. They said the mother board was bad. They were unable to find a like computer to exchange for mine, but they gave me a loaner to use until mine came back from BB's central repair facility. I hope their brains can figure it out and return it to me as good as (it should be) new.

I have the exact same problem as Burt with the same model of laptop. Burt, I sent you a PM. If anyone else is out there that can contribute, I'd like to hear your story. I bought my laptop in September 2008.

I have the very same problem as Burt with the same laptop. Acer techs here do something when they repair it and its good again until about 1 month to 1 1/2 and the problem surfaces again. I bought mine at Best Buy in New Jersey Oct 2008 but I live in the Philippines so there's no returning it. Can anyone help? My OS is Vista.
