How to Flash the BIOS

I have an IBM R40 type 2681. I am trying to add an internal WiFi card (Mini PCI card). I am sure that I have the right card . When I put it in and turn on the computer I get an immediate error saying that this card can not be used and I must remove the card.

I have the most recent BIOS version installed (1OET61WW (1.27); however, I read from other forums that I must flash the BIOS so the card can be seen. Apparently this has resolved the situation for others.

Your suggestions would be appreciated. I know how to enter the BIOS but I do not know how to FLASH the BIOS.

Re: How to Flash the BIOS

Hi Len,

R40 and other Thinkpads with built in wireless has something like a list of 'allowed' wireless cards in the BIOS. AFAIK there is a hack that would change the BIOS and make it accept the other wireless cards. The best way is to buy the wireless card from IBM.

I am not so sure if I am allowed to discuss this here as per forum rules but try Google on the topic... (ex. R40 wireless bios).
