cant get into windows

Hello there , great site ! I have a Dell Inspiron 3500 that runs Windows 2000 . It has been freezing up a lot lately and today it gave out. It will turn on but after the "loading your personal settings" I get this message,"WINLOGON.executive has generated errors and will be closed by windows .You will need to restart the program." I tried rebooting in safe mode and last known config but same problem . Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated as I know very little about computers . Thanks!!
