trouble with multiple monitor options on tosh-sat 2410

i have a toshoba satellite 2410-404 with a p4 and run withountbtrouble until last week.
my harddrive froze and had to be replaced.

now i get two monitor options under the menue: display properties.
settings:
1.(Multiple Monitors) on NVIDIA GeForce4 420Go Microsoft Corp
2. Default Monitor on NVIDIA GeForce4 420Go Microsoft Corp

the laptop starts with 1 but this has a resolution of 969x768 pixels only
2 offers a higher resolution like 1024 X 768 and more. this was the one used before the harddrive has been replaced and there has been no option of multiple monitors.

i can not switch to the 2nd option because it always jumps back to 1
i tried all options under trouble shooting and nothing helps

we have a small computer shop in our small town but they couldnīt help either.

any advise would be highly appriciated
thank you
