BIOS boot menu can't see CD drive

Hi all... I am trying to boot from a CD on a Sony Vaio someone gave me. Though the boot menu calls for it to boot from the optical drive first, it goes to the hard drive (I tested the CD itself in another laptop and it boots fine). Here's the thing: the hard drive has a + next to it, the CD drive doesn't. When I click on the hard drive it shows me the make and model, when I click on the CD drive it does nothing, as if it can't see the drive at all. When booted normally in Windows the CD drive works fine, and the device mgr. reports all is well. What can I do about this?

Have you checked boot order in BIOS settings? If not, make some changes in the listing. Make sure CD/DVD drive comes before the HDD.
