acer Notebbok aspire 3003 lci Model # zl5 getting hang

Specification
ACER 3003 LCI Model No ZL5
AMD SEPRON 3000/ 15” XGA/ 60 GB HDD/DVD COMBO/512 MB RAM/.
Operating system Window Xp Professional.


My friend gifted me ACER 3003 LCI Model No ZL5 from united states. from last 3 months system is getting halt when operating system reaches at loading of system tray icons. During boot process. I took all the possible remedies Like…

(1) Reinstalled the operating System twice (xp and Win2k professional)
(2) Scanned system with Norton 2008 and mc afee but dint found any virus.
(3) Entire hard disk scanned for bad sectors. but there is not any bad sector on harddisk.

If you have remedy which I can done by my self pls let me know.
I consulted the local service centre but even ther were unable to diagnosed the exact cause ..

I would suggest you test the RAM memory. Use Memtest86 - download here....

It's a bit tricky to install and run but there are a zillion threads over the web that explain how to do it.

It very well may be a bad RAM module. If you want, remove & replace the ram if you have spares or RAM you can borrow for testing. This will eliminate the need to run Memtest.

Did you run any HDD diagnostics? Follow the advise of deeman777 on the Memtest to check RAM for errors. If you find no errors, run diags for HDD. Follow the HDD Diag Tools link on my sig to get the appropriate diagnostic tool for you HDD (depends on maker).
