help please
ive had this for a while now....
i have 2 ram sticks, 128mb, and 2 ram SLOTS as well, but only 1 slot works, when i insert a stick into that slot i get a 3 3 1 beep message at startup, what would be the next thing i do except new motherboard??? thanks. |

check they are seated properly
run memtest on the sticks 1 stick at a time http://www.memtest.org/ with xp you need a min of 512mg ram preferably 1g [2x512]

well the actuall problem isnt that its not seated properly, the problem is that it doesnt recognize it even though its in all the way, so i can only use 1 ram, thats why i wanna know if there is something i can do to fix this.

The brand and model number are all I need, I see it's a laptop,
If the memory did work at one time and now does not then either 1 stick has gone bad or become unseated, or lastly it's a problem with the socket. Have you tried testing 1 stick at a time? Sodimm's can be tough to get properly seated at times and will come loose from a jolt that laptops get sometimes. I say to try putting the known good stick into the other slot if you haven't already done so. These are the beep codes you have described Three short beeps, pause, three more short beeps, and one short beep. 1. DIMM. 2. id say its the board because i tried both sticks on 1 socket (one at a time of course), and they both worked, then when i try them both on the other slot it gives me the beep message, well thanks alot anyway you helped me alot!
