acer aspire 5100 screen issues

I have an acer 5100 - the laptop crashed and I had to have Vista re installed - After that the screen did not work - so replaced the inverter - all fine for 1 day, then blank screen, so for past week have had laptop hooked up to ext monitor. Today laptop screen working perfectly.

Does anyone have any Bright ideas what it can be.

When the screen goes - I can see stuff but very dark. I thought it was the backlight, but if thats the case then why is it working today.

Was the replacement inverter, new (brand new)? It could also be the backlight. I have seen backlights behave similarly when either they or the inverter is about to go.
