Laptop error code?
I was using my laptop like normal on AC power, then it turned off and wouldn't turn on. I put a multimeter up to the AC plug and it is reading 15V (which is what it should read) The power light on the laptop is blinking an error code which is
short long short short long long long short or 01001110 I read a post I found googling that said to reverse that code and convert to hexadecimal which results in a code of 72 I've been searching for what this code means and am not coming up with anything. The manufacturers website is just junk so far (250 page pdf files about how to burn CDs and other worthless info) The laptop is a Toshiba satellite pro m15 s405 Can someone please help me diagnose this error? Re: Laptop error code?
So what does it do when you turn it ON?... no signs of life? Try removing battery and AC then press and hold power ON button for 30 secs atleast. Put back batts and plug back AC then power ON as normal.

Re: Laptop error code?
I ended up calling their tech support and they told me the code means "Bad System board."
So I guess the mobo just died while I was using it? I was hoping they could tell me more so I could maybe replace say just the ailing cpu fan or something, but it looks like the laptop is junk =( But I did try your advice trigger, and the code just continued to flash. |

It sure looked like a bad motherboard or a corrupt BIOS. That's good that you called them up. That took a lot of troubleshooting on our part ![]() If you want to continue just out of curiosity... replace the RAM first.

Re: Laptop error code?
I tried with no RAM, and also I tried each stick of RAM by itself (2x256MB) and none of the configurations worked. I'm guessing that the fan which had been making wheezing sounds periodically since I got the laptop just quit and the CPU is dead.
Does that sound like a reasonable diagnosis? Or would you think there are more steps to troubleshoot? (ie..if the onboard fan had quit, maybe the mobo would auto-shutdown, and all it needs now is a new fan? or is that just wishful thinking? The dang fan is $30 minimum, or I would just go out and buy one to try it out..) |

Re: Laptop error code?
Before you buy anything and if you are still willing to pursue, strip down the laptop to just motherboard, RAM, LCD and power ON switch. Try to boot and see if it shuts down immediately. If it does, try a good working RAM. If still problem exists then it could be the mobo.
