Re: Laptop Freezes At Windows Setup Screen
Replace the RAM first. If symptoms persists, run HDD diagnostics and CHKDSK /R using an XP install CD. If you do not have an XP install CD, borrow or get one.

Re: Laptop Freezes At Windows Setup Screen
genius triggerfinger..how does he chkdsk if his computer locks up at setup screen? you have to access recovery console or some kind of command prompt..but sounds like he's locked out.

I guess you are right...but without any information on what part of the install it failed, I just guessed that it could be the part when it started to install into the hard drive. Recovery Console runs from the CD and RAM. With a functioning mobo, a good RAM and working CD/DVD drive, he is not locked out yet, thus the CHKDSK suggestion... but then again I could be wrong... If you have a better solution to help resolve the issue, please do join in.
