Laptop screen remains off on startup screen

Hi, my laptop screen doesn't come on(doesn't even light up) while the startup logo is loading(i know this because I can see the windows startup logo load normally on my external LCD monitor). The laptop screen turns on only when the blue "welcome to windows" screen and the mouse cursor appears. Same thing with shutting down. Laptop screen turns off earlier than it should. With this problem I can't see my bios or any error screens on startup except with my external monitor. How can I fix this problem? Many thanks.

Just a guess but it maybe that you have changed some power saving settings.

I haven't changed any power saving settings myself and I don't know where to access those controls either.
