Toshiba Satellite A200 laptop black screen problems

I have a tosiba satellite a200 laptop running windows vista home edition on it

Recently and with more and more frequency the screen will just go completely black and everything will lock up despite the power still showing to be on. To escape this I have to hold the power button until it shuts down that way.

This is the most predominant issue with the laptop, but on occasion it will just restart at random, and a few times today it's gone to the blue screen where the message is

A problem has been detected...

The system encountered an uncorrectable hardware error
