HP Compaq 8710w Vista nVidia problem

Hi,

I have a HP Compaq 8710w mobile workstation laptop
It has Vista business (32bit) installed.

The problem I have is that the nVidia Quadro driver is causing hardware crashers -ranging from screen flicker and freeze to just blue screen memory dump!

It seems to be happening more frequently (I could just about live with the flicker). It has happened almost from day one, but I was just too busy to change laptop and thought updating drivers would fix.

However, I've tried all drivers from nVidia and HP site to no avail.
I dont know if its a Vista only issue or Vista+this laptop or if its a hardware error?

Any help would be apreciated

Re: HP Compaq 8710w Vista nVidia problem

Hi,

Iam not getting much joy either.

I logged it with HP and some idiot techie sent me basic instructions on booting with Safe mode and then said to run some hard disk tests -which may wipe the drive!

I think my problem gets worse (i.e. every 2 mins) as soon as I plug in a second monitor (HP L2208w). Its the same if I plug into a docking station or directly into the external monitor port.

I really need to use that second monitor too!

haven't tried with an external monitor... but I noticed that if I unplug the power cord all the problems go away... :)
