I am getting the following message:

"Windows cannot locate the device driver for the hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Familiar to anyone?

in the device manager uninstall the drive then reboot and check it

Have done that. Uninstalled device, rebooted, scanned for new hardware and still keep getting message.

Also have tried deleting the Upper and Lower filter from registry, but no joy...

uninstall and reinstall any burning software
in the device manager what has yellow alongside of it's entry
check the laptop makers download page for your laptop model for a driver

Hi,

Out of frustrations, I uninstalled Realtek Ac97 device (had a yellow warning sign on), scanned for new hardware and you guessed it, had my cd-rom and all working.
