Newbie has HP Pav. dv5000 sitting, dead...help!!
Hey all, I just joined this site to ask this question and hopefully get some help. It looks like I came to the right place.
About 2 1/2 years ago I bought a HP Pavillion dv5000 laptop brand new. I used it for school and work for about a year. After leaving it plugged in during a lightning storm in the mountains, the notebook completely stopped working. To this day, I have this thing just sitting. The screen does not come on. No lights on the unit or the charger come on. Battery in, AC out, nothing. Vice versa, nothing. I've asked people and I've heard to try new battery or adapter, maybe a backlit bulb? I'm really inexperienced when it comes to the hardware and I just haven't had the money to get it even 'diagnosed' at a shop. I'm now low on cash and thinking of selling the thing, but I thought I'd post here first. Any info would be great. Thanks. |

Start checking the output of AC adapter first. Also make sure you have a charged battery. If you still get no life when you power ON, check power ON button (see dv5000 service manual). If it still fails to light up or show any life, it could mean a bad motherboard.
