Wink Please Help with my laptops mouse...

I have just bought a used laptop from a friend and I need help with one thing that I can't figure out and neither can my family... I am just using the finger mouse that's automatically in my laptop and I like just using that but when I go to type anything I always hit on my mouse and move it without even realizing what I'm doing. My mom lives with me and so this is really about her computer but I have a different laptop that mine just has a little button above the mouse that I hit on and off when I need to type. My moms doesn't have that at all and I don't see any "function" shortcut keys that do it either but maybe I'm overlooking something. If ANYBODY can help me out and tell me how I can switch this mouse on and off when we need to, I would be so thankful!! This laptop is a... Dell Latitude D520. It has Windows XP and this sticker down here on the keyboard says, "intel Celeron M inside". I don't know if that makes a difference or not. As you can probably tell, I don't know much about laptops so PLEASE PLEASE could somebody help me out??!!?? If this laptops mouse can't be locked and unlocked, please let me know that also if you would! Thank you in advance for your help with this nail-biting issue!!

Thanks, Elycia

Just be sure not to disable it unless you have an external mouse connected.
Thanks,
