Acer Fan issues and heat problems

Hi,

I have had a Acer Aspire 1652 for just over 2 years. Recently the fan has started working overtime, running very loudly all the time.

Even when the laptop is idling, and has been for some time, the fans are still going to the max. The laptop also gets hot to the touch, I have installed a program to tell me how hot it gets and it is about 40-45 degrees C.

The only way to shut the fan off is to unplug the laptop from the mains and run it from the battery, CPU usage occasionally spikes at 100% even when the laptop is idling, normally SVCHOST.EXE causing it to run at max, which then seems to set the fan off.

Obviously I do not want the fan to stop cooling the laptop, but find it odd that they only run when plugged into the mains, I have taken the cover off where the fan sits and cleaned it, so there is no dust there anymore, and this has not solved any problem. The laptop gets hot under the right side of the keyboard as you look at it, not sure what components are there that would create lots of heat.

How can I stop the laptop chucking out so much heat, and consequently causing the fans to work quieter, as I will have to start using this laptop for work and it will be embarassing that the fan is so loud all the time! I wouldn't mind if it came on and then cut out when it has cooled, but it will keep running until I either unplug from the mains or shut it down . Why would it react to the mains being plugged in or running from the battery.

Also, using Acer's Power management, I have taken the CPU speed down to medium, this is ok as I don't use that many intensive programs on this machine, but this has had no effect on the fan at all.

Sorry for long post, and TIA

Re: Acer Fan issues and heat problems

Clean the vents/heatsik/fan areas. Make sure all dust is taken out. Use an air compressor or air brush or can of compressed air to blow thru the vents..
