Sony Vaio Operating System not found
Hi,
I have a 1.5yr old SOny Vaio VGN-TX750p that worked flawlessly until a motnh ago. It came up with an error starting XP Pro on not finding some sysmtems file and on "restoring" to a previous XP Pro working version I got the message "Operating system not found". I got the Sony boot disk, and a stack of other disk repair disks and everything checked out but same problem when trying to boot from HD. I took the opportunity to install Ubuntu Linux and everything installed well except when i tried to boot from HD same problem. I have now replaced the HD and re-installed XP Pro (although I would prefer Ubuntu) - installation went smoothly and on boot from HD, again "Operating system not found". I've read a lot of blogs and forums on problems with Sony Vaio laptops around this issue but no one really gave a solution. Everything seems to work and the HD is new and evrything seems to check out, chkdsk, fdisk, fixmbr everything went smoothly with the new HD but same error message. So it really seems to be either very simple or very expensive to fix. Appreciate it if an expert can shed some light on the matter. Thanks in advance. Young NY
