Sony Vaio not recognizing battery

I have a Sony Vaio Model PCG-792L. I have not had any problems with the computer until about two weeks ago. I went to start it up and nothing happened. I figured the battery was dead. So I plugged it in and stried again. Still nothing. I removed the battery and left it plugged in and presto it started up. I went to put the battery back in and got an error that the battery was not replaced correctly or the battery is not compatible with my computer. This is the original battery that came with the computer. I shut down the computer and removed the batter and put it back in. The computer wouldn't start up again. I removed the battery and it started up again. So now I can't use my computer with the battery in it. Since I am sure I am like most people and don't really want to get a new computer because if it I have taped the power cord to the computer. Please I need help...

Re: Sony Vaio not recognizing battery

I believe you have a dead battery in your hands but to be sure it is not the motherboard, I suggest you get a working battery just to test. Another way is to use your battery in a similar laptop. Again, this is just to test and validate that you indeed have a dead battery.

Re: Sony Vaio not recognizing battery

I don't think it is the battery. The battery was charged just before it happened. I also have a spare battery and it is doing the same thing with that battery. I know that when the computer is off but plugged in the battery light will blink letting you know that it is charging the battery. It doesn't do it anymore. Thanks

Re: Sony Vaio not recognizing battery

I am assuming your AC adapter is good and working. If this is so, you may have a problem with your motherboard. I am not so sure if there is a circuit board just for power and battery in a Vaio but if there is, may be it is worth checking too. You will need a service manual so you can locate and remove the part without problems.
