No keyboard and still beeping
Ok i will start from the beginning. I have a gateway m-1625. the laptop was sitting there minding its own buisness when the cat strolled by and knocked a glass of soda in it
. I took the laptop apart and cleaned everything. the laptop booted up and the keyboard did not work except a couple of keys. but here is my problem. the keyboard is not attached any more and when it starts to boot up the laptop beeps like crazy as if there is a key being pushed(no keyboard is attached). then the beeping stops when windows comes up and when the password screen comes up it acts like there is a button being pushed. once again no keyboard. what could being causing the laptop to think that there is a key being pushed? is there anything that i can do to fix this. thanks for the help. |

Re: No keyboard and still beeping
Just a guess, I don't really know for sure, but the beeping is probably the machine's way of teling you that there's an issue with the keyboard. It doesn't know that you can see the board is not connected.
Assuming you're using an external keyboard, does the beep sound with it plugged in? If so, my next guess is that you'll probably need to buy a new keyboard for your machine. I hope one of the hardware gurus replies you so you'll get a straight answer. As I typed this response I realized that I've never had a need to use an external keyboard or even a monitor; the answer wiill not only help you, but will also teach me something interesting. |

Re: No keyboard and still beeping
Looks like a motherboard problem. If only you can test your keyboard in another similar laptop...

Re: No keyboard and still beeping
Oh, I didn't realize anything was happening other than beeping. I have to defer to Trigger and the rest of the crew here who all are much more knowlegeable than I. Hopefully, your problem somehow ends up not being quite so serious as the MB.

Re: No keyboard and still beeping
I'm not a hardware person, but it sounds like there's a short somewhere in the MB or Buss
