Recently, my computer has been slowing down when I play a game. I went out and got COD4 last week and installed it. The intro movie ran kinda slow and so did the menus (choppy mouse/sound). Then when i click to select a server, the mouse gets really jumpy. Finally when I'm able to get into a game, my mouse moves incredibly slow. I'm talking so slow that it took me 2 minutes to get it lined up on a button to select my class. The one time i actually suceeded on getting into a game i could not control my guy because everything was so jumpy. And le tme be clear....by jumpy i mean the screen would refresh once every 3-6 seconds.
Obviously there is something wrong because my computer DEFINITELY has the hardware to run a game like this. I've even tried to play on minimum setting and its pretty much the same thing. It has also done the same thing on games that are much less visually demanding. (deer hunter 2005, some older RTS games.) I called hp about this last week and they told me to update my video drivers (duh) and when I tried, my computer kept shutting down, we ran the HD test in the BIOS and it came back failed so we replaced my hard drive. Well after waiting a few days, getting the HD in the mail, reformatting it, installing everything again..........same thing!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!! And yes, I checked to see that the video drivers were up to date. I cant get the hp website to pull up so I cant post allllllll the specs of my computer but here's what I think is vital: 3 gigs memory 2.1 GHz AMD Turion 64 x2 NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M Anything else, let me know. I think its also worth telling you guys that the sound seems to be working fine when the video is choppy. I hope i gave you enough info to get an idea of what's going on. If i can be of any more help, please let me know. This is really pissing me off!!!!!!!! THANK YOU! |

Re: Computer slows down on any game
I found the specs...
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01302415&printable=yes&encodeUrl=true& Thanks for the response. I downloaded a program called ram test. If that is what you are talking about, I'm going to need a bit of a walkthrough. Last edited by outofthepark44; 09-27-2008 at 03:35 PM. |

Re: Computer slows down on any game
Try this. Mem test, it also has a manual to show you how to use it.
http://hcidesign.com/memtest/manual.html You could also set all the grafic settings in you games to low/off. Last edited by Mack; 09-28-2008 at 02:17 AM. |
