Compaq Presario 2100 problems

WHen i turn it on it goes to the welcome screen where i can select users but if im on there too long or if i click on the user. The screen goes black then a message pops up momentarily but i cant read it. and it will then reboot and do the same thing over and over. Then i rebooted it and tried to go into safe mode but it won't let me pick an option. What could i do to fix this? Would I be able to restore the harddrive? If so where would i be able to get the cd? Thanks

Are you using Vista? Try Startup Repair. If that does not work, try to restore back to a restore point when everything is bright and merry.

If you are using XP try Windows repair.

Boot to the Bios and run the Hard disk check. If it fails and you see #7 then the drive is Kaput re-operating system . It can still be used as a slave.
