display problem!!!
I have a compaq presario v2000 laptop. The problem that am im having is that while i'm using my computer, usually after 30 minutes, the screen goes blank. I can see that the backlight still on but i can't see any image. I pluged in an external monitor to it and then when the screen goes blank the external monitor says that there is no signal event though before there was. I did some troubleshooting to check that it wasn't the inverter or the screen. i reseated the RAM. I have to hold the power button to restart which it does bring back the image but then after around another 30 minutes of use the blank screen appears again. Please help! and thanks.

Re: display problem!!!
Try to boot with external monitor attached. Observe it for several minutes or an hour or so.
Btw when you tried with external monitor I am guessing that Windows was up and running already. If that was the case, you need to press the toggle switch (ex. Fn + F4).

Re: display problem!!!
i already tryed to use the external monitor. It works prefect up until abot 30 minutes when the screen goes blank and thats when the external monitor says no signal found which means the signal is lost when the screen goes blank.

Re: display problem!!!
hey man i had a similar problem and it was because my video card was overheating. the onliy difference was that my blackouts where random and only usually during gamming or movies. What are you doing when the screen shuts off??

Re: display problem!!!
usually i would my antivirus would be doing a scan or playin a game. However what i did yesterday was run a chkdsk on the hard drive which did find some problems in my hard drive. after that the computer ran fine, the antivirus scan when all the way and everything seemed to be working fine. However after i restarted i got a BSOD with stop code 0x4f i ran a chkdsk again which found and fixed some more problems again. however when the computer restarted i got another BSOD with stop code 0x7a and now i cant even go in to safemode or anything. i researched a little and it said it might be failed or malfunctioning video adapter ram which makes sense whicth what the dysplay was doing. however im inclined to believe it might be bad hard drive so i might try buying a new one now what do you guys think?

Re: display problem!!!
ok what you should do first is like you said try another hard drive, that dosent sound like the problem but it is possible that some of you .dll' s are corrupt, if so that should fix it. then if that dosent work try either reinstall your OS (vista/xp what ever) or use a boot disk of a free Linux OS and see if it lets you into you desktop.
