laptop will not switch on

Hi,
when I try to switch on my laptop,all the I get is the power light on very briefly then nothing.When it finally allows me get onto the computer the date and time are off.Any ideas?

Any more information regarding the laptop's inability to turn on? Seems like it is turning on if it boots into Windows.

The time being incorrect usually indicated the onboard cmos battery inside your laptop needs to be replaced. While easy to do on a desktop, unfortunately isn't so on a laptop. Best bet is to go for the warranty if you still have it. If not you might want to take it to a repair shop, they have the tools and experience necessary to work on laptops- Most of the time.

I'd second the CMOS battery. Had a very similar problem with my Dell Latitude CSx a few months ago. New CMOS battery fixed it.

Definitely the CMOS/RTC battery. Some laptops have that somewhere at the bottom side. To be sure, get the service/user manual to help you locate and replace the part.
