Re: HP Pavillion zv6000 shuts off

Looks like overheating. Clean the vents/heatsink/fan areas. Use air brush or air compressor or can of compressed air to blow out the dust. Also make sure that while using the laptop, nothing obstructs the vents. It helps if you use a cooling pad but not necessary. I use a 2 inch high piece of wood so I can elevate those areas in my laptop.

If problem continues, try NHC or SpeedFan to monitor your temps. At least get an idea how high it gets. Try these first and post back what you find out.

Re: HP Pavillion zv6000 shuts off

Thanks for the quick reply! So anyway, i got speedfan and the core temp when idle is about 40 celsius. this seems a bit high but i am running that AMD athlon processor and i have heard it runs hot. I took your advice and carefully opened up the laptop casing and cleaned the vents, but it didn't help. I am also using a fan base under my comp 24/7. This is kinda weird, speedfan recognizes my processor, hard drive, and everything else, EXCEPT for the fans. I know they are running but still speedfan doesn't recognize the fan rpms or let me adjust them or anything. This help at all?

Re: HP Pavillion zv6000 shuts off

Oh it's not weird at all. They cannot control the laptop fans.. all they can do is check your temps and give you an idea. A small twist from a desktop where AFAIK it can control the fan speeds.

Btw, if you want the temps to be in the 30+ range... buy an Intel (at least Pentium M or higher). I really doubt you can cool down an AMD at standard room temperature... but then again I may be wrong. Also check your HDD, I once had a Fujitsu 7200 RPM that ran so hot, it seemed the palm rest and bottom part of the laptop was burning.

Re: HP Pavillion zv6000 shuts off

ok ill do that. :) im looking at getting an upgrade fairly soon, but i hope to get one more year out of my hp. It just is kinda odd because it didn't used to have this problem (its nearly 4 years old) and i did have a virus, but it was taken care of. Also it seems like its getting worse, just today i was trying to import a cd to itunes and it shut off halfway through... i also checked the ram thinking it could be a ram problem, but i have an average of 50% free almost all the time ( its a 1 gig with 3 or so virtual) so i don't think that is a problem. I used to use this comp for gaming but now it quits during every game(even in the original quake!) this isn't a huge problem, but it is quite frustrating and i would appreciate any knowledge that could help! (baffling, huh?) well thanks again

It would not hurt if you run this test:

http://www.fis.fujitsu.com/support/d...TWin(1.12).zip

That is just to know your HDD is not causing it. Also run Memtest86+ to test the RAM just to be very sure.
