Toshiba Tecra A7, possible motherboard failure?
Hi Everyone
Have a Toshiba Tecra A7, battery must be dead and it doesnt charge, needs power adapter plugged in. When you turn it on, the fans start working but the screen remains blank. Leaving it for a while and pressing the power button once does not have it shut down by itself (as if it were booting Windows desktop or welcome screen). Attaching an external monitor and attempting to switch monitors using the buttons does nothing as well. The function key does illuminate when pressed however the caplocks does not. Removed the hard drive, all data able to be viewed, nothing wrong with the drive, also that shouldn't make any difference weather the computer boots or not. Maybe a dead screen but I really dont think so as with the issues above, optical drive trey still ejects when pressed when the computer is powered on. I have not been able to find any such power management reset procedures, if any exist. Does this sound like some type of failure to do with the motherboard? Does anyone have any further tests I could do to confirm its the motherboard? Thanks Jack |

Re: Toshiba Tecra A7, possible motherboard failure?
When you power ON do you hear and see any activity (LEDs light up, fan spins, sounds from HDD and CD drive)? If yes, try an external monitor (do not use toggle keys). If you do not see anything on screen, try reseating the RAM or try using a new one.
If you have done all these then it could be a video chip or motherboard problem.

Re: Toshiba Tecra A7, possible motherboard failure?
Hi, thanks for the quick response
everything mentioned has been tried, reseating RAM, external monitor, trying without battery installed etc. As I said I do hear the fans working, optical drive is functional. There are LED lights when the power is turned ON, all except the HD, but even if the HD wasn't able to be connected with the screen should still fire unless it is the board right? Also the HD is fine as i'v pulled all the data from it on my mac. So it does look like the motherboard, as even if it was the video card its integrated into the board so I guess she's toast Thanks guys |

Re: Toshiba Tecra A7, possible motherboard failure?
well, seems like the battery memery effect, if your battery show 100% capacity and only work for a while, it must be the issue. you can 100% discharge the toshiba laptop battery and overcharge it for 4-5 hours, to let the memery effect disappear, and then run the laptop again.
good luck! ------------------------------------ Last edited by TriggerFinger; 09-30-2008 at 12:58 AM. Reason: removed advertisment links |
