I'm planning on upgrading my Presario C762NR RAM from 1GB to 2GB because Windows Vista seems to be sucking down more and more RAM lately, and I'm going to college this winter. I have found places that have stated that my laptop supports 3GB of RAM but Compaq says it only supports 2GB. Has anyone tried adding 3GB or 4GB to this kind of laptop? I could probably try one 2GB stick and use existing 512MB stick to make 2.5GB, reduce Vista memory stress and make things smoother and faster.

Re: Compaq Presario C762NR Max RAM Question
IMHO I think this can only be achieved if you are using the 64bit Vista.

I got 4GB RAM but Compaq keeps crashing when it reaches the desktop fully loaded after bunch of hiccups, BIOS reads 4096 and VRAM inreased from 256MB to 384MB. I edited the BCD registry to reduce RAM by 128MB to show 3900MB, it worked but the notebook saw 4GB but only used 1GB... i dont know why. I need help :( I'm using x64 now.

Re: Compaq Presario C762NR Max RAM Question
Yes I am using Vista Home Premium x64. I read that my Chipset, GM965 Express Chipset supports max 4GB RAM. I can't make it boot properly with both sticks installed, I tried each separately so the modules are not defective. When I had both installed my BIOS Memory Test passed every time.

Re: Compaq Presario C762NR Max RAM Question
Hi,
I noticed you have a very similar thread open: Vista x64: 4GB Horror. Both threads talk of the same thing... and thread above is already being helped. I am closing this thread now.
