Dell XPS M1710 power issue
Hi, I have just bought a brand new battery and charger for my XPS M1710 the problem is this, when the battery arrived it was at 80% charge which I thought 'great' but then when the battery started to deplete i plugged in the 130w charger and hoped it would charge the battery but it doesn't. Then when the battery reached critical level my laptop shut down, I left the charger plugged in but nothing seemed to happen, the laptop would not power up, then after a few days and all of a sudden the laptop powered up so i went to quick set to check the battery health etc and it says that the system cannot communicate with the battery??? the laptop will work constantly as long as i don't remove the power supply, which is not good when it is supposed to be mobile, although if i do it just turns off as if there is no power I have tried both the battery and the charger in a friends machine and they work fine. Is it possible that my laptops' bios does not recognise the battery or the charger and if this is the case how can I rectify the problem.
Thanks in advance Jonn |

Re: Dell XPS M1710 power issue
Hi Jonn,
Are both (battery and adapter) genuine DELL? If they are, then may be it could be the motherboard. Check the Dell website for any BIOS update that may address this issue too just in case (I did a quick visit to DELL but I cannot find something related to this in the BIOS updates for your model).

Re: Dell XPS M1710 power issue
Hi TriggerFinger
Both battery and power supply are both genuine Dell components, I have read somewhere that it might be something to do with the bios as you have said, however I am not sure where to look for the flash file for the bios.

Re: Dell XPS M1710 power issue
What is your BIOS level now? If you visit this page http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=191455
.. see update A04 for details of what it fixes and its enhancements.
