[SOLVED] My laptop chrashed how do i recover whats on it?

Hi,

My laptop is about 5 years old and its been a reliable tool for a long time now even though i've dropped it a few times. Now however, or actually at the end of last year, It stopped functioning. I bought a new one, not knowing there were clever people out there who could help me. I believe it was my disability to handle the device with care. that made it stop working.

Now, i would really like to be certain that it does not work (so that if it does i can put it to work once more) and if, truely, it is destroyed i would really like some help recovering the lost data. Gods of tech, hear my pleads, please help a no good mishandeller of desktops to salvation.

This is the scenario:
When i power up my computer this is what pops up on the DOS-screen (or the equivalent: my operating system is XP):
"
Not bootable CD-ROM
Not bootable CD-ROM
Not bootable CD-ROM

Intel UNDI. PXE-2.0 (build 082)

Re: My laptop chrashed how do i recover whats on it?

can you see the drives listed correctly in the bios
is there a disk in the cd drive

if we cannot get you back in to recover data slave the drive in another computer useing an adaptor to connect it or a usb case

check to see if theres a disk in the CD-ROM drive, if there is remove that then reboot the laptop, also what the previous guy said, then check to see if the drives are listed correctly in the BIOS when you boot up your laptop.

Re: My laptop chrashed how do i recover whats on it?

Ok, the problem changed. I checked the BIOS and realized that it was only booting on the diskdrive and the floppy. I did this a long time ago when i tried to troubleshoot the pc myself. I changed it to boot on the harddrive. Now what happens is this:

it boots as a healthy computer should if, it asks me though weather i want to start windows in safe mode and all the other options in that menu. I've tried them all, still the same thing happens right after the windows xp loadscreen - the screen turns blue for a splitsecond and then reboots.
Could it maybe be fried RAM? or maybe i should try booting from an xp cd?

sorry its been awhile i know. Working on a ship and troubleshooting isn't that effective a deal.

Ok, I searched a little more on this forum and I found a solution ^^
I inserted my xp like i was gonna reinstall.
when setup had loaded all it's files i pressed R for recovery.
then typed chkdsk c: /r and viola - my computer which haven't worked for a year is now fully operational. SOLVED
