Toshiba Laptop Trouble

Hi everyone, my laptop is driving me crazy, and I could do with some advice. I have a broadband connection, but you wouldnt know it, the amount of time it takes to load most internet pages. Some websites no longer want to load, and until I changed from Internet Explorer to Firefox, I was being bombarded by popup windows.

I thought I had probably downloaded some sort of trojan, spyware or some such, so I got myself a copy of counterspy. After cleaning the laptop up (the programme did notice trojans etc) I have noticed no difference whatsoever. If I attempt a google search, it just seems to 'sit there'. Most of the sites that don't want to load are shops, such as Play.

Anyone know what I can do to get the machine running smoothly again?

One more thing: a major symptom is that my 'automatic updates' are turned off. Every time I try to turn them back on, they are switched off again... worrying!

Re: Toshiba Laptop Trouble

Hi and welcome to TSF.
It sounds like your machine is still infected with malware.
Follow the instructions in the link below and an analyst will help you.
Post your logs in a new thread in the HJT section.
You will need to be patient as they are very busy.

Re: Toshiba Laptop Trouble

Thanks for the advice so far, it is much appreciated. Unfortunately I appear to be stuck on one of the 5 steps (not sure if I should post this here or in the malware thread!)

I registered with Panda Active Scan, and downloaded the plugin. But when I try to run the scan, I keep getting the same message:

"We're sorrry. The download could not be completed due to an error. Please try again".

Now what on earth do I do? Skip the step?

Re: Toshiba Laptop Trouble

Just skip any steps you cannot complete and make a note of it when you post your logs.
