Optical Drive reads DVD's but NOT CD's. Any solutions?

Hi,

I have this dvd burner on an acer laptop thats reading dvd's but doesnt read cd's. Any solutions to fix this?

Thanks Mike for your response, checked that link you provided but its not for Vista. Mines a vista OS. still I downloaded that and tried installing and it said "latest browser plugin installed" and that was all. Far from the Autoplay repair Wizard I thought It was going to do.

Hello ,

from what i have read you need to update the firm ware for you dvd rom

you will need to find out what type of unit it is then go to the manufacturers home site and download the firm ware and install it

your firmware for the device has gotten corrupted some how

Mike--

I have the same problem and tried the link you suggested, but it didn't fix my DVD/CD drive. I also updated the drive's firmware, but it still won't recognize CDs (DVDs are ok). What are the steps you were going to suggest?
