EI Systems 3085 power issue?

Hi,
I have an EI Systems 3085 laptop, The main issue is the charger I think, I pray its not the motherboard though.
When the charger/adapter is plugged into the mains, it has a solid green light, however when its plugged in the laptop it goes to a faint flashing green light.
I have tried it with and without the battery installed and it wont power the laptop up, it just gives me a faint flashing light.
The laptop runs off the battery no problem without the mains, however I only have about 1 hours charge left on it.
I kind of need it to run from the mains.

Is it a faulty charger?(I cant check the output of it)

Faulty battery?

Or a motherboard fault?
Any help appreciated.

Check DC jack connection. If it powers up with battery it could be your adapter or something connecting your adapter to the motherboard (DC jack). Measure output voltage of the adapter just to be sure.

Re: EI Systems 3085 power issue?

Thanks for the reply TriggerFinger,

Ok, Ive checked the voltage on the adaptor and thats fine, I have even bought a replacement power adaptor, tested that and plugged it into the laptop.
But Im still getting the flickering green light when I plug it in.

What would be my next step, Im guessing its the motherboard?

Re: EI Systems 3085 power issue?

Now since you ruled out the AC adapter, it is time to check your DC jack connection (where output of AC adapter plugs into the laptop).

You may need to open the laptop up. If this is fine, try removing all except the motherboard, CPU, fan/heatsink. See if you still get the same symptom if laptop plugged in. If it does, then it could be your motherboard.

Re: EI Systems 3085 power issue?

Ok, I've stripped it down and It's still giving me the same problem.
Motherboard trouble I guess.
I'm thinking It's going to be too much trouble to replace the motherboard.

Ebay is a wonderful place as I've found an identical system that powers up and charges, but with a broken screen.....

2 screws for the hard drive, 2 for the cd drive and swap the screens over and all good.

All I've got to do now Is win it, then my problem should be sorted....

Thank you for the help.

It is just sad to hear that it is the motherboard. But then again eBay is there. Good luck and I hope you win the bid.
