Angry Laptop wireless problem

Umm.. first off I have an HP pavilion tx1320us table PC running windows vista. And I've had it virtually problem free for the last 4 months.

So then I was on the internet using a wireless connection Saturday night. I leave the computer on, and go for a walk for a few hours and I come back and my HP wireless assistant tells me that my WLAN is disabled. i tried to enable it via Device Manager but my network adapters doesn't even list my wireless card at all! It's like it doesn't exist. So i thought maybe I had to add the hardware again so I did that with the add new hardware thing in control panel. Doesn't even detect that there's anything connected that doesn't work.

I restarted my laptop and that didn't help.

My laptop didn't have all that many files so I just backed it up and reverted to factory settings. I got my wifi back.

12 hours later it did the same thing again. And when I tried to restore factory settings again, it now doesn't detect a wireless card.

Someone help... PLEASE. I'm giong crazy...

Re: Laptop wireless problem

Hi,

You should have your Wireless card tested. I think it is malfunctioning if not totally dead by now. Some things to check out... use the card in another laptop and/or borrow a similar (working) wireless card to use in your laptop. That way, you will know if you need a new Wireless card or not.

Re: Laptop wireless problem

OK so I got a recovery disk from HP and that helped... briefly. The wireless card works fine still I think. There's just something else that's wrong... And after recovery disk, which I don't think was very successful, i can managed to get the wireless card working again but something called FBI GUI manager kept popping up and I disabled that. My local hard drive went from one 250GB hard drive and a 25GB recovery partition to just one local 25gb hard drive. No signs of the 250GB one. AND the wireless card has disappeared again.

Re: Laptop wireless problem

Looks like the recovery is NOT that successful. I would surely do it again, but this time formatting the whole drive. I am thinking the 25GB before is the recovery partition that is (I am assuming this) gone by now.

About the Wireless, if would display that symptom if the Wireless card itself is playing kookie. Testing another card or testing that card in another laptop would help.
