Windows replaced bad clusters in file \FOUND.009\File4279.chk of name (null). Windows replaced bad clusters in file \FOUND.009\File4280.chk of name (null). and the list goes on the question is that it has been stuck on 22 percent completed for the last 45 mins. does anyone have a gun or an answer. cheers dave

Re: Hello, Need more help
Hi Dave,
Have you tried running HDD diagnostics? Run the diags first. Also if you have XP Home CD, try CHKDSK /R in Recovery Console. Btw, when you installed XP Home, did you do a reformat of the drive/partition?

Re: Hello, Need more help
none of the keys that I am pressing are changing anything or turning off my laptop. My hdd is still going through the bad clusters (up to file 4417). am I best just turning off the laptop at the power source and starting again?
Cheers dave |

Re: Hello, Need more help
Hi Dave,
If it is a new install of XP Home then it should not do that (AFAIK). I have doubts with the hard drive. Are you open to doing a fresh install (you just did one recently, right?)? I ask because we do not have any clue when a drive will fail. My idea is, since you are in that loop right now, you might as well power it OFF, do the diagnostics and reinstall as needed. EDIT: I would definitely run the diags first. If HDD pass with flying colors I will reinstall XP Home. Of course, I will reformat the HDD before I do a fresh install.
