possible to fix dead keys?
well...for the dumb part.
the other night the spilled some wine on my laptop keyboard (Alienware M9700), top left corner. I hurried and turned it off and let it dry for a bit. When i turned it back on none of the keys worked. Well i took it apart (key for key...clip for clip...so tedious) and cleaned the whole membrane sheet in warm soapy water and let them dry. Now, most of the keys work, with the exception of a few...mainly the space bar. Also not working are tab, ~, 2, F1-F11, \, and the plus and minus on the keypad. I honestly would not mind that much if even the space bar worked because you cant really type w/o it. Im curious why some keys wouldnt work, because i followed the traces and they connect to other keys that work properly. the only thing i can think of, is somehow it disturbed the resistance/whatever of the membrane sheet, causing said keys to produce the wrong scan code. I know there are programs out there to remap keys and what not..but it there anything that would...say if it is a wrong scan code...it would take that code, and reassociate it with the correct one. ie. space bar produces the scan code XXXX but mine now makes YYYY...is there a program that can take my YYYY code and make it type the XXXX code that windows knows the space bar to be? also, is there any way i can see the scan code of a key as it is pressed? possibly another program or something thru dos? |
