Re: Help with installing Windows Xp

if it is a sata drive you need to load a driver with f6 for xp to find the drive

Re: Help with installing Windows Xp

Dai is correct but if it is a SCSI or RAID drive too you will still need the F6 function keypress at the start of installation to load the right drivers from a floppy or CD/DVD.
Check your cable connections too - I know it's obvious but who knows....

Re: Help with installing Windows Xp

Most new BIOS allow an Alternate method for SATA . . Go into the bios and check the "Sata Operation" setting, change it to "Raid Autodetect/ATA if it is not already. Now try to install XP ( Verbage will vary by manufacturer )

Re: Help with installing Windows Xp

Well i have tried all the suggestions you guys gave me when i press F6 it loads to a menu where it lets me select a drive but the thing is it says their is no driver to select to install windows on i am unsure about the changing Raid Autodetect/ATA because it does not let me change to raid autodetect but their is a menu button where it says internal device configurations and when i go into there it says:

Serial ATA Controller ENABLED
AHCI Configuration ENABLED
IDE Controller ENABLED

so im not sure if its one of these options
i also ready this other topic and the person had the same problem is it true that i can install vista in this situation? and i dont have to press F6 and or insert a floppy disk

Thanks for all those that have tried to help it is much appreciated

Re: Help with installing Windows Xp

If there isn't a driver on the disk you are using you could get one from the site of the board manufacturer. They usually have a util so you can make this disk from a downloaded file.

Re: Help with installing Windows Xp

New version is not going to help . . it will not have the sata driver either.

Have you thought about slipstreaming the sata driver into a new install disc using nLite?

Try disabling AHCI Configuration. I had the same problem, and I changed "SATA Configuration" (or something) in my BIOS from "AHCI" to "Compatibility" and it worked.
