Vista only starting up in safe mood.

I have this laptop, a Toshiba, about a year old that my brother brought to me one day saying it was broken. When starting up, the laptop lets you choose if you want to go to safe mood, start windows normally etc etc etc. If I hit start windows normally, it just shows vista trying to start up but actually never does. It will only start in safe mode. As far as I know, there are no viruses on this laptop, it was running perfectly fine up until this point where my brother says it just starting up like it is now. We tried a system restore which did not work.

Try the Vista Startup Repair.

Also try doing a fresh install. It looks like you need to do it anyway.

Steps to do this should be documented in your Users Guide. You can get one for your model here:

Try using the System Restore Disc and boot from it (CD/DVD drive). It should give you options on what to do next. Also see steps here:
