Question My laptop was stolen - any way to trace it?

A few days ago somebody broke into our downstairs apartment and stole my acer laptop and an external HD containing every photo ever taken of my kids (no we don't have backup - the HD was the backup).

So now I'm really angry and sad, and not yet ready to let go of all those precious memories.
So is there any way to trace something?
- I have the serialnumber of the laptop and the mac-address.

hmmmm......if you have msn/aim/yahoo messeger, you could wait until they open up the laptop and connect to wifi so it automatically signs in and then tell them to bring it back:P

That won't work - I already changed the passwords for everything that has autologin and besides that I just reinstalled the machine, so there were no messengers installed.
