Roomie's DVD drive isn't working

We went into the device manager, and it had a little exclamation point on it, and when we went into properties, it said the driver isn't working, or something, and it said Code 10.

Anyone know what's up?

in the device manager uninstall the drive and reboot the computer
then check it

Still isn't working. It still doesn't show up when we open My Computer, and it still has the exclamation point and the Code 10 error in device manager.

can you see it listed correctly in the bios

try another 80 wire ide cable on it
try the drive in another computer to check if it is a problem with the drive

It's a laptop. I probably should have specified that in the beginning. :P

when you don't you get instructions for a desktop
try a windows restore to a point when it was working
does the laptop offer a non destructive restore option
