CD-RW DVD-ROM combo not working
For some reason my CD-ROM doesn't want to work it seems like the drivers are installed but it gives an exclamation mark. I tried all sort of things like installing it and reinstalling it and I tried getting updates from Microsoft Updates. Also I tried getting it from Sony.com but it seems that since my notebook was made for XP it doesn't have any drivers for Vista. So I will have to find them myself somehow. I have Windows Vista Home Basic. My notebook is the Sony PCG-R505ESP. I really need help on this please since if I don't make my CD-ROM work then I can't install any programs that uses a CD.
I can say that Win XP and 2000 has no problem with the CD-ROM only Vista has this problem but it might actualy be the driver but I don't know. On the device manager it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" This is the model of my CD-ROM "Sony i.LINK CD-RW DVD-ROM Drive IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device" Everything else seems to work perfectly fine but just the CD-ROM doesn't work at all. I just got the Windows Vista Home Basic upgrade few days agao. Thank You |

Re: CD-RW DVD-ROM combo not working
the driver should be contained in vista
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...mdl=PCGR505ESK uninstall the drive from the device manager and reboot then recheck it

Re: CD-RW DVD-ROM combo not working
Well there isn't really a driver for just the CD-ROM since Windows 2000 and XP detects it and runs it with the drivers that 2000 and XP has. I have already tried to uninstall and reinstall the CD-ROM but when it detects it it asks to put a CD or browse to find the driver but I can't find something that will work for Vista. I tried using the standard CD-ROM driver from list but that doesn't work eather.

Re: CD-RW DVD-ROM combo not working
Well that person had a problem about the CD-ROM not reading centain CDs. My problem is that my CD-ROM doesn't work at all. Also it doesn't even show up on My Computer. Since it will normaly have that and also have things like the floppy and C Drive. But If the CD-ROM doesn't show on under My Computer then I know my CD-ROM isn't working at all. Also even on the device manager it shows that device can't start and code 10 for somereason.

Re: CD-RW DVD-ROM combo not working
I tried the IEEE1394 Device Driver Toolkit for Windows but that didn't work since it didn't make it as a CD-ROM drive when it tried to fix it. It did take the code 10 error message out and it said it was working but it seemed like it wasn't set to work as a normal CD-ROM it's hard to explain. The one for the bus driver it seems like it's only a demo and I can't download it. Also it seems like that you can only use it for few hours and then it will be back to your old settings. I need someone that will keep the settings forever for free since I don't really have that much money. Is there a way I can fix this CD-ROM for free?

Re: CD-RW DVD-ROM combo not working
After I unziped the file and installed it to a folder and then I tried using that files that it installed to install the CD-ROM it says that make sure that the file is for a 32bit system and it did say something else but I think it was just basicaly saying it didn't work. I tried installing it manualy. buy doing that have a disk and browseing to that folder and using that inf file.

Re: CD-RW DVD-ROM combo not working
I did goto the links that it says to goto but it didn 't help to install the drivers I need to make the CD-ROM work. I might be that I need to install an older driver than what Vista has. Meaning install the driver that XP has on Vista. problem is I don't know how to get that driver. I really really appreciate you guys trying to help me since it really means alot to me to make my CD-ROM work again. I been trying for a while to see if I can make it work but I still have this problem. If there is anyone else that can help me with this problem I would really appreciate it.
Thank You |
