Optical drive not detecting

Help, the drive is not detecting discs. My laptop is a Packard Bell MV46-008.
Tried various types of discs, drive is recognized by computer but green light on optical drive extinguishes after initial boot. Any ideas guys?

Re: Optical drive not detecting

if it doesn't see anything you put into it, then i'd say time to replace the drive.

Re: Optical drive not detecting

first check the the drive is detected in Bios .. if its detected then check the optical drive in the safe mode ,if it's detected ,then update the firmware ,if the drive is not detected in the safe mode ,go to the registry ,go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class ,in that key you will be having an sub key named " {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}... clock on it ..in the right hand side you will be able to see 2 options named " upper filter, lower filter " .. delete them ..restart the laptop ...check the drive ..still if it's not ,u hav to replace the drive ..
